Dinner for Two at Blackout Restaurant, Jaffa
Chefs often say that people eat first with their eyes, then their mouths. But what if the restaurant was in total darkness and you could not see the food? You will find out what eating without seeing is, at Blackout Restaurant.
Initially the darkness was soothing. There was nothing to look at, and no distractions. With no visual stimulation I found myself searching for other stimulation - sound or smell. We could hear the room fill up with people and now and then someone brushed past us. We sat in silence, listening to the sounds around us.
"Delicious!" my companion exclaimed. But for me, not seeing the food reduced on my appetite. Dinner at Blackout, if not the gourmet experiencce of a lfetime, is certainly a learning experience. Visit this restaurant to get a better understanding of life for the blind and to learn something about yourself as well. Also be sure to see the performance by the only deaf and blind theater company in the world..
